Have you ever hiked with your friends? Have you ever hiked 12 miles? January 27, 2012, was a day I will never forget. I went to class hike with whole 8th grade class from OVS! We took off at Gridley Road then we started to walk. This was only my second hike in my entire life. I loved it and I hated it.
Early in the morning, our class met at the 8th Grade Lawn. We checked our supplies really quick and got onto the bus. The classes were excited about hiking, but I wasn’t. Honestly, I really didn’t want to go, because I had a cold; however, I had to go. When we arrived, I became nervous. Until that time, I couldn’t even imagine that I was going to walk twelve miles! Soon I became dizzy; it was hard to breathe and my legs hurt. Mr. Inman, the science teacher at our school, helped me to reach the top of the mountain. I felt really sorry for him because I know that it’s hard to push and wait for slow people. While I was walking, I thought. “I will never hike again!” But when we arrived at the top of the mountain, my thoughts started to change.
It was lunch time when I got to the top of the mountain, and I thought; “I survived!” I was the last person in our class. While I eating lunch, I saw a marvelous view. It was just like a picture. There was the ocean, some big mountains and Santa Cruz Island. I felt like I was standing on the clouds and the aura was beautiful too. After that, we ate sandwiches for lunch, and they were delicious than anything I’ve never had. We took pictures and started down. While we were going down, I felt the hot air like a summer wind. It sounded like the winds were saying to me “Good Job”. I got my first blisters ever on my feet, but I was so happy when I got on the bus. When we got back to school, there was a little surprise for us. There were sodas! A soda after the long, painful hike made me feel heaven.
My second hike, although was painful, it was gorgeous, and I learned many things about hiking. Now, I know that there’s a way to drink the water, and don’t stop makes hike easier. I’m really thankful for Mr. Inman who helped me reach the top of the mountain. When I got back to the dorm, I couldn’t move or feel my legs. I went to hike because it’s duty; however, it gave me unforgettable experience in 2012.
