Poetry....? Not my friend.

One week ago, in my writing class, we learned about poetry. At first, I thought the poetry class was going to be boring, however; I figured out that writing poetry is really fun, and it’s just another type of writing.

At first, we learned about basic vocabulary about poetry. For instance, what is poetry, stanza, rhythm, rhyme, rhyme scheme, meter.. etc. Then, we wrote a free verse poem. It was my first English poem, but I liked it. The next day, I learned about Diamantes. It looks like a diamond and it’s made up of nouns and objects. Here’s my first diamante poem.

Then, we learned about Cinquains. There are really similar to Diamantes, but they have some syllables. Lastly, we learned about Haikus. We wrote a poem by using syllables. It was hard to make syllables, but it was a really fun experience.

I hope that I can learn more about poetry next time. This class made me more interested in poetry and I really enjoyed it.
